ABOUT Bay Area GREEN TOURS
Our Mission is to inspire and educate youth and adults to build a
more enduring, resilient and just future by creating interactive experiences that
highlight the regenerative economy in action.
We show you the inspirational models to encourage the urgent action needed to combat the Climate Crisis. Our volunteer-based non profit highlights innovative regenerative solutions of local organizations through engaging, educational and hands-on learning experiences in collaboration with local organizations and leaders. We have been focused during Covid on showcasing our climate hero partners through virtual tours, team building events and videos, and slowly pivoting to offering in-person experiences starting in Summer 2022.

Our ImpactSince 2008, we’ve organized innovative experiences highlighting environmental justice and sustainable solutions that minimize the impact of the Climate Crisis, from regenerative agriculture to zero waste food systems, LEED Green buildings to urban farms. We have educated thousands of professionals and students about how they can alter their food choices and daily life to lead a more sustainable and resilient lifestyle. We highlight and share the latest positive eco-solutions our partners are utilizing to combat the injustices of climate change, improve food security, build community and create career opportunities. We engage with and share stories from diverse local leaders working on the frontlines of environmental activism. Your donations will help us fund educational programming. |
Our Commitment to BIPOC and underserved communitiesBIPOC communities disproportionately experience the effects of pollution, food insecurity, and the impact of climate change. Environmental issues are inextricably linked to racial and socioeconomic disparities. BAGT brings new audiences to see first-hand the innovative work of grassroots organizations led by BIPOC leaders. We have worked with hundreds of school groups from underserved communities on our tours. We prioritize providing a platform for the underrepresented voices of grassroots and BIPOC-led groups in our programming, who often do not have the opportunity to showcase their inspirational work. Our communities are more frequently devastated by natural disasters than ever before and the weight of the climate crisis can often feel overwhelming. BAGT’s compassion for the Earth drives us to share healthy models for people and nature to coexist. We are sharing stories about inspiring projects and programs that represent the diversity, breadth and value of our regional movement, highlighting projects from frontline communities. |
INVESTING IN OUR FUTUREOur youth is our future! Today’s youth will be tomorrow’s leaders in tackling the climate crisis. We believe that youth engagement is a particularly important way to tackle racial disparities and environmental justice. BAGT emphasizes engaging with BIPOC students and interns to inspire more diverse representation in environmental advocacy and enables them to share their ideas. We offer workforce development tours and Farm to School programs which inspire the next generation to choose careers and lifestyles for a healthier planet. We provide youth-led video tours of local farms to help inspire engagement with environmental activism. Additionally, by tailoring internships to match their goals, we also pave the way for interns to enter the global workforce of jobs focused on sustainability. For professionals, we provide opportunities to volunteer and enhance their knowledge while making new friends and developing valuable skills. |
As we begin to ramp back up after suspending operations for more than two and a half years, we're only accepting requests for in-person tours with a lead time of four weeks. In the meantime, stay up to date on our activities through our quarterly newsletter.
Your support can help provide inspirational tours for students and underserved audiences!
"They are taking kids out who never get a chance to see the beauty of the green economy. They're showing these young people there's a future out there that can include them."

From our Blog...
Buzzwords in the environmental world keep evolving. At first, everything and anything related to the environment was “green.” Like most terms that go mainstream, it became overused. “Green” has now become “sustainable...”

As a fourth- grader, Bay Area Green Tours (BAGT) Executive Director Marissa LaMagna attended a field trip to a wastewater treatment plant in New York City. She wondered, "Where does all the waste go?" Thus began a lifetime of eco-activism, including founding Oakland-based Bay Area Green Tours in 2008. How does a tour company reinvent themselves during a pandemic?

No, I’m not retired! Since 2008 BAGT has given me the opportunity to constantly learn and be stimulated by changemakers and thought leaders I have met and worked with. But I also know that stepping back is my new reality. But when? How?...
