our story
The idea of Bay Area Green Tours was sparked when Founding Executive Director, Marissa LaMagna, attended a fourth-grade field trip to a wastewater treatment plant in New York City.
She couldn’t help but wonder, “Where does all the waste go?”
Ever since that formative experience, Marissa has been an ambitious environmentalist, working for proactive change to advance the health and wellbeing of our shared planet and future generations.
In 2008, she began Bay Area Green Tours as a side project of the San Francisco Green Festival. It has now grown into an independent organization, providing a bridge to solutions for more sustainable practices and new future possibilities by showcasing local green models focused on creating a sustainable future, and empowering people to incorporate environmental responsibility and social justice into their personal and professional lives.

svetlana torgashovabookkeeping & accountingI first joined Bay Area Green Tours in 2008 as an intern for a short-term project. Then in 2015 I jumped on an opportunity to help out with on-boarding international interns to work at BAGT here in the US. At that time, I also learned about “the life cycle of a tour” and what happens behind the scenes of tour production. In 2017, I transitioned to bookkeeping and helping with pricing the tours, as well as providing support with the research. I am honored to be a part of this change making organization. My hope is that we can reach a wider audience and provide more of our educational, mind-shifting, eye opening, and FUN tours!
